Information for Technics Customers in California
Effective January 1, 2026, certain Technics products sold in California will include a Covered Battery-Embedded Product Recycling Fee. This fee is mandated by Senate Bill (SB) 1215, which updates California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003.
What Is a Covered Battery-Embedded Product?
A “covered battery-embedded product” is a product that contains a battery not designed to be easily removable by the user with standard household tools. These products require proper collection and recycling at the end of their lifecycle.
How the Fee Works
- The covered battery-embedded waste recycling fee must be charged at the point of retail purchase of a new or refurbished CBEP.
- Retailers are required by law to collect and submit this fee to the state of California
- The amount of the fee is determined by CalRecycle (California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery)
